“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” – 1Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
LIGHT FOR NOW: Thanksgiving is the nature of every newborn man in Christ Jesus.
Jesus speaking in Matthew 6:26-30 “Behold the fowls of the air: for they neither sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not much better than they?” He says by worrying, how many of us can add one hour of your life to the length of your life? Verse 28 & 29 “And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these”.
Worthy of note is the fact that in the New Testament, this is the only portion where Solomon is mentioned; and it happens that when he is mentioned, he’s compared to the lilies. Jesus points us to the lilies so that we can see that these lilies don’t worry themselves. They don’t even add anything to their beautification, yet they are being clothed property. Verse 30 “Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?”
This means that if God could pay so much attention to the flower, how much more man he created in his own image and he sent his son Jesus to die for. He opened our eyes to see that the reason believers become so worried and anxious is because they don’t believe what God stands for. Believers don’t trust God for who he is, maybe because we’ve not seen him face-to-face. That’s why we feel God is not doing certain things for us.
However, Verse 34 says “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”. This is proof that worrying about what to eat or wear is distraction. It takes our faith away from what we should focus our faith on. Believers, are you aware that God knows that you have needs? Now, your knowing is the beginning of your rest. The moment you know or have the understanding that God knows you have needs, you begin to enjoy unlimited peace and tranquility. Glory!
