GRACE

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves” it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s grace is shown in salvation

The word grace is one that goes far beyond being a mere cliché; instead it in itself describes the very character of God telling of who God is in reality. The word grace was translated from the Greek word “Charis”, which implies undeserved favor, or unmerited favor. The grace of God describes the character of God in that He gave up His son to die, nd the benefits of that death. We see Paul teach the grace of God as salvation. “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:5-8). “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11). In these texts mentioned, Paul goes further to teach the grace of God as salvation. He also teaches grace as all the believers have received in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24-25; Ephesians 1:6-7). Everything we enjoy today as children of God is based on the grace of God.

In the Old Testament, the basis for God’s blessings was dependent on the law. After the cross, the basis for God’s blessings is faith in the finished work of Christ. This law says you are accepted by God if you keep all the commandments and meet all its obligations. But grace says God has accepted you not because you kept the standard but because Jesus has kept the standard for you.

The law shouts, thou shalt, thou shalt! Grace declares, “I will, I will, and it is done. It is done! The moment you place the works of the law between you and God, you are neglecting the finished work of Christ. It is actually an insult to the work of redemption. For if righteousness came through the law, then Christ died in vain. The totality of the believer’s life is purely lived from start to finish by grace. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Grace saved you, not the law still with grace.

CONFESSION: I am saved by the grace of God; therefore, grace speaks for me, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The law shouts; Grace declares.
