CONFESSION OF CHRIST: A CONDITION NECESSARY TO SALVATION

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” – Romans 10:9-10

LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is our sin bearer.

What does it mean to confess Christ? Is confession a condition essential to conversion, salvation from sin, and becoming a believer? How does confessing Jesus relate to faith, repentance and baptism? Does the bible give a set of formula one must quote in confession? Must we confess Jesus as king, Christ, Lord, Saviour, or Son of God? When and why should a person confess Christ according to the gospel? When people think about “confession”, must people think about admitting guilt, which is unpleasant? But we can also confess good things. For example, we may confess that we love our husband or wife, our children, our country, etc. To confess means to declare, acknowledge, profess, or admit. One confesses when he openly declares a thing is true. Confession is the opposite of denial or silence. Three elements are needed for a proper confession:

  • A belief in the heart that a certain thing is true.
  • A decision that one is willing to make an open commitment and let others know.
  • A statement acknowledging, professing, or declaring the conviction.

Confessing Christ plays a vital role in becoming a believer or being saved from sin. Anyone desirous of salvation must believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord over his or her life. No one can be born again by merely wishing to be. The reason for this is simple: Jesus consciously did something to become our saviour and Lord. He fulfilled the righteous demands of justice that consummated salvation for all mankind. Hence, to be born again, you have to consciously confess the Lordship of Jesus over your life; that’s the principle that guarantees salvation. You’ll have to say: “I believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead; I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord of my life”. That confession is key to salvation. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Confess Christ.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for the privilege of fellowship with you in the light, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Stop being insecure in a salvation that has eternal security.
