“Behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19
LIGHT FOR NOW: The authority of the believer is in the name of Jesus, and the name of Jesus that carries this authority is not the label but the office.
The words of Jesus in Luke 10:19 above is in tandem with his words in Mark 16:15-18 where we have the great commission. Jesus says in Mark 16:15-18, The Passion Translation “And he said to them, As you go into all the world, preach openly the wonderful news of the gospel to the entire human race! Whoever believes the good news and is baptized will be saved, and whoever does not believe the good news will be condemned. And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of my name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous. And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them”.
The use of “serpents and scorpions” here is a figurative expression for demonic forces, satanic forces, powers of darkness. That’s why after he says “tread over serpents and scorpions”, he then explains further by saying “and over all the powers of the enemies”. Thus, the “serpents and scorpions” was figuratively used to represent all the powers of the enemies; hence, the next statement was “and over all the power of the enemies”, and that word “and” there is “kai” in the Greek; it is an explanatory term in this context, it means “that is” or “which is”. In Luke 10:19, he said “Behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. This is good news; we are in authority! We are seated in the highest realm of power.
Little wonder upon resurrection, Jesus in Matthew 28:18 say “All power in heaven and in earth has been given unto me…” And the word “power” here is the Greek word “exousia”, meaning authority. All that authority given to him upon resurrection becomes ours by identification, that is, by new birth. God exercises his authority, influence, power and office in the earth today through you. How can you know this and be running away from village because there is so much diabolism in operation there? You are in authority! You reign over devils! Use that authority! Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Make use of your authority.
CONFESSION: I am in authority; therefore, I issue out commands and it stands, in Jesus Name, Amen
QUOTE: The name of Jesus is our authority.
