KNOWING YOURSELF IN CHRIST (31)

I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus – Philemon 1:4-6

LIGHT FOR NOW: The cure to identity crisis is knowledge.

We’ve seen and established that Paul’s emphasis on our key text is knowledge. So a Christian life deficient of knowledge will not be an active or effective Christian life. Christianity on its own is a knowledge based faith; even salvation functions in knowledge. So it’s a dangerous attempt to be ignorant of God’s word as a believer. You are in Christ; know yourself in Christ; read the bible; you can never outgrow reading the bible; you can never outgrow learning. Keep learning humbly as a student, not as a master because you can never be a master of God’s word except you have allowed pride into you unknowingly. How did Paul say our Christian life will be effective? Paul says it is going to be effective by the acknowledging of every good thing in you in Christ. Notice the preposition “In Christ” (even though we cannot unbundle it here in its entirety for now). The preposition “in Christ” is the signature of the gospel. “In Christ” is the heart of the epistles and the signature of the epistles. Paul’s signature in the epistles is the preposition “in Christ”. The biggest thing in the New Testament is the preposition “in Christ”. This preposition “in Christ” carries the concept of our identification and the imports of what that identification has made out of us. That is:

  • Who we are in Christ
  • What we have in Christ and
  • What Christ can do through us

So the epistles are for us to see who we are in Christ, what we have in Christ and what Christ can do through us through precise knowledge. It is only in knowledge that God’s ability in the believer can be revealed. Outside knowledge, God’s ability in the believer cannot be revealed. Let’s conclude with Apostle Peter’s words in 2Peter 3:18, it reads “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen”. Say “I grow in grace which is in the knowledge Jesus Christ”. You are born of the word; your realities are in the word. So grow in the knowledge of the word. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Place value on knowledge.

PRAYER: I declare that my knowledge life as a Christian is stirred up for more of you Lord, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Growth in grace is growth in knowledge.
