KNOWING YOURSELF IN CHRIST (26)

I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus – Philemon 1:4-6

LIGHT FOR NOW: Walking in love should be a priority over taking offences as a believer.

In the course of explaining Philippians 1:9-11, we have come to deduce that in the interactions of believers with one another, the choice of walking in love is better or more important than being offended or taking offences. So the believer will not automatically walk in love. He is to initiate the love walk irrespective of perceived wrongdoings from fellow believers, church leaders and members. We must choose to see our leaders as God’s vessel and esteem them very highly for their work sake. Hear Paul in 1Thessalonians 5:12-13, “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves”. In 1Timothy 5:17-18, Paul has this to say, “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And the labourer is worthy of his reward”. We must thus treat our pastors and leaders with respect and regard. Likewise, we must see fellow believers as members of the same body (the church) and treat them with high regard and respect. We must see them as God sees them, and treat them like God treats them. Little wonder Paul echoed in 1Corinthians 12:22-23, “Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness”.

Knowledge therefore, is very important in the believer’s love walk. Your love walk will be effective to the degree of the knowledge of Christ you have. We cannot separate a believer’s conduct from what he knows. We cannot separate what a man does from what he knows. So, as touching the believer’s conduct; what he knows informs what he does. So where the love walk of the believer is concerned, knowledge is key. How much he knows determines the progress he will make in his love walk.

INSTRUCTION: Make knowledge a priority.

PRAYER: The zeal to know your word and not just know it but also walk in the reality of it is stirred up in me like never before, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: You cannot separate the believer’s conduct from what he knows.
