“I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: You don’t increase in your nature, you only increase in the understanding of your nature.
We are still examining Paul’s words to the Philippian church in Philippians 1:9-11. And we’ve said that the word “your love” doesn’t mean that Paul was praying for love because love is the believers’ nature. And you don’t pray for what is your nature; you only pray to grow in the understanding of it and that happens by knowledge. So the term “your love” was used specifically to each believer’s love walk. Paul was not praying for love (the believers’ nature), but he was praying for the believer’s love walk (that is, for the believer to conduct himself in his nature or to walk in his nature). Let’s proceed as more understanding will come. Back to Philippians 1:9-11 as we read it again, “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God”. Now having observed what the word “your love” means, let’s now observe another key word in verse 9 which is the word “abound”. The word “abound” which is the word “persseuo” in Greek means “to increase”. The question now is, will the prayer be for them to increase in their nature of love? The answer is No! Rather, the prayer was for them to increase in their walk of it. Now, observe a double emphasis of the word more, he says “more and more”. In essence, Paul prayed that the believer will make progress in his love walk towards others. So the love walk was what they were to abound in more and more. He prayed for an increase, not in the nature of love but in the walk of that nature or the walk which that nature produces. In other words, the nature of love in the believer is the reason why the believer can naturally walk in love. So, believers are to increase more and more in their love walk towards others. The next question is, how will this be done? This will be answered in proceeding studies. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Walking in love is natural to you; acknowledge it!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, as my realities are being unveiled to me through the word, I declare that I walk in these realities and not just have knowledge of these realities, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: When you first see love as your nature, then walking in love becomes you walking in your nature.
