THE LIFE OF HONOUR SEEN IN OUR LOVE WALK AS BELIEVERS (4)

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW:  Walking in love should be our conduct and not living in offences.

In our previous study, we observed the scenario of John the Baptist in Matthew 11 whom Jesus affirmed to be the greatest prophets amongst all prophets who prophesied in the Holy Scriptures (Genesis to Malachi). We discovered that the same Jesus he revealed to Israel in chapter 3 of Matthew as the one to come, the one mightier than him, and the one whose shoes he wasn’t worthy to bear is the same Jesus in chapter 11 that he questioned his role. So the question we were about to answer is, what must have happened? How will John reveal Jesus to Israel as the one to come and later question if he is the one to come? Jesus’ words in that chapter 11 of Matthew answered this; Jesus said “blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me”. This does imply that John was in offence. This scenario therefore helps us to see that when the believer is in offence, he will disregard or dishonour that which he used to hold in high esteem or treat as sacred. The same person who used to be a blessing to him now becomes an object of ridicule. Fellowship with the saints now becomes boring; all of a sudden, he begins to question why activities are done in a particular manner in the local church. Rather than see God’s work in and through believers (leadership and membership), who are his chosen vessels, all he sees in his mind are their faults, weaknesses and frailties and if he finds one, he becomes a news broadcaster of their fault all in attempt to destroy the church of Jesus; he will even forget that God did not give us a ministry of looking out for people’s fault in other to broadcast them and tarnish their reputation, he gave us a ministry of reconciling men to God. Like John, such a believer is offended; this will be evident in his thoughts, words and then actions. Offences and dishonour only glorify self and not the Lord Jesus and our father. As believers, we are not instructed in scriptures to walk in offence, we are rather instructed to walk in love. We walk in love. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Love is the nature of your spirit, walk in it.

PRAYER: Father I declare by faith that I give expression to my realities in my conduct, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The antidote to offences will be walking in love.
