LIVING THE LIFE OF HONOUR AS A BELIEVER (17)

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW: A display of honour in our attitude to others in the local assembly shows we are walking in love.

From the body of scriptures seen so far in our previous studies, we came to deduce that to honour the son (and his church, which is the body or fellow believers) is synonymous to honouring the father. And inversely, when we dishonour the Lord Jesus, and by identification his church/fellow believers (leadership and membership), we are dishonouring God our father. So, whatever we do to his church in our conduct and attitude (dishonour or honour), we are doing to the Lord, and to the father. Now, notice again Mark’s explanation of why Jesus could do no mighty work in his hometown, it reads “And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the Sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? And what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him” (Mark 6:1-3). Notice, they were offended at him; thus, it can be safely implied that a fundamental display of honour in our conduct or attitude towards fellow believers (leadership and membership) is walking in love. No wonder in our key text (Romans 12:9-13) which will be examined in the course of this study, Paul said in verse 10, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another”. In context, when he talked about brotherly love, he explained it as honour. So walking in love is a fundamental display of honour in our attitude towards fellow believers, towards church leadership and church membership. That’s why the epistles are replete on instructions of walking in love, which we will see from a few body of scriptures in subsequent studies in anticipation of us delving into the concept of the life of honour seen in our love walk as believers. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Manifest honour in your attitude because it proves that you’re walking in love.

Prayer: I declare by faith that as my eyes are enlightened, I conduct myself in honor, in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: You cannot say that you are walking in love while you are living in dishonor.
