GOD’S LOVE REVEALED IN THE GOSPEL (21)

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” Matthew 24:14.

LIGHT FOR NOW: The story of redemption is love at its highest height.

It is clear from our studies (having seen the state and manner in which Jesus died) that He went to hell. Paul echoes this in Romans 10:6-7 which read, “But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, who shall ascend into heaven? (That is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)”. The word “deep” in the above text was translated from the Greek word “abussos” which means abyss. And the word “abyss” refers to hell as we saw in our previous study. In other words, the Greek word “abussos” means hell, chaos, darkness. Paul buttresses the same fact in this letter to the Ephesian church, it reads “(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had previously descended [from the heights of heaven] into the lower parts of the earth?” (Ephesians 4:9 AMP). He descended into the same place as Abraham, Lazarus and the rich man. He went to where spiritually dead people went to. He remained there for three days and three nights. He was separated from His father; He never ascended to Him till the third day. He would suffer the pangs and pains of sin punishment. Paul says in Romans 6:4 which reads, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death”. He was buried in man’s sins; these three days stand as eternity. Justice did not count calendars outside the earth’s clock; that was suffering in eternity. Thus, He had suffered for man’s sins yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. Hear the writer of Hebrews, he says “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrew 2:9-15). This is the gospel; this is the good news of His goodness to humanity. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Stay with the message.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for your goodness revealed in the gospel of your son wherein I am saved in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: Jesus died our death and gave us His life.
