GOD’S LOVE REVEALED IN THE GOSPEL (20)

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” Matthew 24:14.

LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus identified with the sinners state upon His death and will thus go to where spiritually dead people go to.

Having seen the state and manner Jesus died, the question now is, where did He go to after He died? Recall, He was made sin; He became an accursed object. He was rich but He became poor for us; so, it is easy to know the destination. Jesus went to hell. Peter’s account will help us. Peter had the benefit of Jesus explaining to them for 40 days; Let’s hear his words, it reads “For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy one to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with my countenance. Men and brethren let me fully speak unto you of the patriarch David that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses” (Acts 2:25-32). Jesus was not left in hell; He went there but never remained there. He rose from there; He fully identified with man. He had to bear the punishment in all of judgment’s wrath and fury. In the same breath, Jonah had prophetically spoken the same things, it reads “And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice” (Jonah 2:2). Jonah was not there when this happened. The spirit of Christ in him spoke of Jesus. Let’s listen to Paul on the same subject. In Paul’s letter to the church at Rome, he echoed same, it reads, “But the righteousness based on faith (imputed by God and bringing right relation with him) says, do not say in your heart, who will ascend into heaven? That is to bring Christ down; or who will descend into the abyss? That is, to bring Christ up from the dead (as if we could be saved by our own efforts) (Romans 10:6-7; the Amplified version)”. So, He descended, He went down, just like the sinners (He substituted). He went into the abyss. Abyss means hell, chaos, darkness. Let’s keep investigating this in our proceeding studies. Hallelujah!
