“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the father, but by me” –John 14:5
LIGHT FOR NOW: There is no Christianity outside Christ.
They are so many folks in the church today who actually see Christianity as a mere religion. So, most of them conclude that Christianity is a religion just like other religions. But the truth is that, Christianity is beyond that. Christianity is far beyond a religious cliché. The question that comes to the fore is what then is Christianity? Notice that in our opening text, Jesus in response to Thomas question in verse 5 said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the father except by me”. This implies that the only way to God is Jesus. If you miss Jesus, you have missed God. How much of Jesus you know is how much of God you know. This means your relationship with God will only be founded in Christ. Christ Jesus is therefore all of God to us. Christianity is a relationship and fellowship with God found only in the person of Christ Jesus. Outside of Christ a man cannot relate with God; outside of Christ, a man cannot know God. Our relationship with God is only because we are in Christ. The only basis where God can relate with a man is in Christ Jesus. An unbeliever therefore cannot relate and fellowship with God because he is not in Christ. This is Christianity; the relationship and fellowship we have with God is in Christ Jesus.
Christ Jesus therefore is the reason for Christianity. He is the reason why we are called Christians; it is his death, burial and resurrection that has done it all not what you do. Christianity is what Jesus has done. Christianity is not a product of your action; Christianity is a product of Jesus’ actions (his death, burial and resurrection). Christianity is Christianity because of who Jesus is and what he represents to us. Jesus in his death, burial and resurrection granted us unlimited access to the father. What then is the actuality of Christianity? The actuality of Christianity is our fellowship with the father. It is our unlimited access to the father. One important fact to note is that man’s sin brought separation, but Jesus death brought reconciliation with God which is the basis of our relationship with the father. Jesus came to reconcile us to God. This is Christianity. Why? Because in all other religions, they are trying to go to God, but in Christianity, God came to us. God sought for us, we were not the one who sought for him. He found us, we did not find him. You were not the one who found the Lord; it was the Lord who found you. This is the love of God made manifest; that God will become a man to save man and give man unlimited access to him; and by so doing man can relate with God. We have unrestricted access to the father. This is Christianity; God and man united in Christ and relating with each other as family members. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: You are a Christian because you are in Christ and you are of Christ, and not because you are going to church every day. Think about this.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for your unconditional love that has made me who I am today. For this I’m grateful, in Jesus Name!
QUOTE: Our fellowship and relationship with the Father is the reality of Christianity.
